The Goddess has been revered in India since the Vedic period. According to the scriptures, she is the source of everything. She is the wellspring of Shakti. She is the start and end. She embodies the entirety of creation. Shakti is a concept or embodiment of the divine feminine creative power, often known as “the Great Divine Mother” in Hinduism. This Goddess Shakti, the Goddess of Power, is thought to be the full embodiment of Adi Shakti. Shakti is the principal deity of the Shaktas, one of Hinduism’s three streams.
8 Popular Shakti Peeths in Odia
Some of the main holy writings, such as the Shiva Purana, the Devi Bhagavata, the Kalika Purana, and the Astashakti, identify Bimala (Paada Khanda or feet) inside the Jagannath Temple in Puri and Tara Tarini (Stana Khanda or breasts) in Purnagiri near Berhampur, Odisha.
The Biraja Temple, also known as Girija Kshetra and Oddiyana Peetha, is thought to be another Shakti Peetha in Odisha. Women wear Oddiyanas around their navels. According to Tantra Chudamani, Sati’s navel fell in Utkala (Odisha’s original name), which is now known as Biraja Kshetra. Sri Adi Shankara, in his Astadasha Shakti Peetha stuti, refers to the Goddess as Girija.
