NCLT and NCLAT Full form, Abbreviation, Meaning and Definition

  • NCLAT – National Company Law Appellate Tribunal
  • NCLT – National Company Law Tribunal

The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) was constituted under the Companies Act of 2013 to adjudicate appeals concerning the decisions made by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). It commenced its operations on June 1, 2016.

The principal jurisdiction lies with the NCLT, which is responsible for fact-finding and the collection of evidence. In contrast, the NCLAT addresses appeals, assessing the decisions made by the NCLT concerning legal or factual matters. Both tribunals possess equivalent jurisdiction, powers, and authority as a High Court in managing cases of contempt related to the tribunal.
