Prithviraj Chauhan is the Rajput warrior king of the Chauhan (Chahamana) dynasty who governed the province of Sapadalaksha with his capital at Ajmer in present-day Rajasthan and founded Rajasthan’s strongest kingdom. 1192, Prithviraja was defeated in the second battle of Taraori (Tarain) by Muslim leader Muʿizz al-Dīn Muḥammad ibn Sām (Muḥammad Ghūrī), which was a watershed moment in India’s medieval history.
