The West Bengal Legislative Assembly serves as the unicameral legislature for the Indian state of West Bengal. It is situated in the B. B. D. Bagh region of Kolkata, which is the state capital. The members of the Legislative Assembly are elected directly by the populace. The assembly consists of 294 Members of the Legislative Assembly, each elected from individual constituencies. Its duration is five years, unless it is dissolved earlier.
West Bengal Legislative Assembly Election 2026 date
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared the dates for assembly elections in five states. The elections are scheduled to take place in West Bengal, Keralam (previously known as Kerala), Tamil Nadu, Assam, and Puducherry. In Kerala, Assam, and Puducherry, the elections will occur in a single phase on April 9. Tamil Nadu will conduct its voting in a single phase on April 23. In West Bengal, the elections will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes for all four states and Puducherry will take place on May 04. The terms of these legislative assemblies are set to conclude in May and June.
