What is Uniform Civil Code and Why is it needed?
In order to keep the unity of the country intact, there is a need for a uniform code instead of individual laws of different religions, the Central Government informed the Supreme Court less than 8 months ago. Meanwhile, the religious struggle has started over the Uniform Civil Code.
Because after 3 long years, the Law Commission has again sought the opinions of the public and recognized religious organizations regarding the Uniform Civil Code or UCC.
Uniform Civil Code is now in focus. The Law Commission has sought the views of the public and religious organizations on the Uniform Civil Code. Then the religious logic debate has started over the Uniform Civil Code. According to social workers, the proposed Uniform Civil Code will bring a revolutionary change in society.
In the opinion of legal experts, now the laws dealing with personal issues like marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance are governed on the basis of religion. But in a secular country like India, all these personal laws should be the same. That is why the central government aims to bring uniform civil code.
According to social workers, there are many problems due to different laws on issues like marriage, divorce, inheritance on the basis of religion. Women are oppressed. Crimes such as trafficking in women, prostitution and adultery are on the rise. With the advent of the Uniform Civil Code, all marriages will be registered. All personal matters will be dealt with in a proper manner.
